The Whitsunday Regional Council is situated at the heart of the Great Barrier Reef.  The region encompasses the 74 tropical Whitsunday Islands, the coastal towns of Cannonvale, Airlie Beach, Jubilee Pocket, Shute Harbour and Bowen along with the rural towns of Proserpine and Collinsville.  The Whitsunday region offers a dynamic environment and is perfectly placed to live, work, play and invest.

 

An exciting opportunity exists within our Environment and Climate team for a Coastal Councils Adaptation Taskforce (C-CAT) Officer.  Reporting to the Climate Chnage Innovation Hub Coordinator we are looking for an experienced individual to provide secretariat support to the C-CAT Executive and the Climate Change Innovation Hub.

 

As the C-CAT Officer you will be responsible for

  • Coordinating C-CAT related meetings, preparation of agendas and preparation and distribution of minutes
  • Working with the C-CAT Executive to develop an annual Action Plan
  • The day to day implementation of activities required in relation to the Action Plan such as:

           * liaising with the LGAQ to inform advocacy for policy, legislation and programs for appropriate research, industry standards, guidelines and codes;

           * establishing relationships and working partnerships with industry, associations and research institutions;

           * assisting member Councils with strategic policy develoment and promotion;

           * acting as a conduit for accessing and delivering grants and other funding and investment opportunities

  • Any other duties advised by the Climate Change Innovation Hub Coordinator

With the necessary experience and qualifications you will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high attention to detail and accuracy.  You will be an excellent team contributor and motivated to complete tasks on time.

 

Essential

  • C Class 'Manual' Drivers Licence
  • Minimum 3 years experience working in an environmental management, climate change or related field

Desirable

  • Studying or enrolled in Tertiary Qualifications at degree level or completed qualifications at a diploma/certificate level in a relevant discipline (Environmental or Science)
