Position Summary

Title: Unaccredited Surgical Registrar

Department: General Surgery

Hours: 86 hours per fortnight
Status: Full-time, 6 month fixed term, commencing from 5th August 2019

 

Bendigo Health is the regional referral and trauma center for a region that extends from Woodend to southern NSW and is committed to delivering world class healthcare to our community.


There is emphasis on a practical, hands on approach to junior doctor training and we aim to foster excellent clinical exposure across a range of specialties. 


The new Bendigo Hospital opened in January 2017 and is the largest regional hospital development in Victoria. It delivers a world-class regional hospital incorporating the latest design and technology solutions, in a tranquil and caring environment.


The new facilities include 372 inpatient beds, 72 same-day beds, 11 new operating theatres, a regional cancer center, an 80-bed integrated mental health facility, a mother-and-baby unit, a helipad and parking for 1350 vehicles.

Bendigo Health is seeking motivated staff to help the organization progress excellence in clinical care as we transition to our new exciting hospital.

Unaccredited positions are available with the Surgical Unit at Bendigo Health which are intended to supply the successful applicant with operative and non operative experience prior to the commencement of your surgical training in General or other subspecialty surgery. 

They  will rotate through the elective units and the AGSU as required, and participate in the evening and weekend roster, as well as providing night cover. There will also be the opportunity to serve as registrar to the busy urology unit. There will be considerable opportunities for operating theatre exposure either as primary operator or first assistant. The position is ideal for junior doctors aspiring to a career in either general surgery or urology. There is a well established registrar teaching program. Exposure to medical students will give opportunities to develop teaching skills.

Selection Criteria
Essential:
01.MBBS or equivalent degree with registration with the Medical Board of Australia

02.Demonstrated appropriate level experience and skills in the medical assessment and clinical management of patients

03.Thorough understanding of the relevant legislation pertaining to Medical Officers

Essential:
04.High level interpersonal and communication skills

05.Evidence of on-going professional development to continually update personal medical knowledge and skills

06.Ability to operate in an environment of change

07.Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently

Desirable:
