We are currently seeking a motivated and experienced Project Officer (Education and Training) to join our Older Person's team on a Fixed Term Part Time basis, based in Chermside.
In this role you will deliver awareness raising and training on the issue of elder abuse prevention. The role supports existing community responses to elder abuse; provides information, support and referral options to older people and their families on the Helpline; provides reports that assist with research and statistical analysis; and assists in the development of training and information material for the Elder Abuse Prevention Unit.
Supplementing the above, you will be responsible for the following:
- Develop and deliver education and training sessions and resources for service providers and community groups across Queensland having regard to current issues, trends and the needs of particular groups.
- Respond to callers accessing the Elder Abuse Prevention Unit Helpline by referring or linking older people to existing services and/or/liaise with other agencies where appropriate.
- Provide reports and statistical information on elder abuse and assist in the development of strategies for the coordinated intervention and prevention of elder abuse (including the development of EAPU policy in this area).
- Develop networks with key stakeholders at local and state levels to facilitate the coordination of elder abuse prevention across Queensland.
- Assist in developing working relationships with Indigenous older people, older people of Culturally and linguistically Diverse Communities (CALD) and older people from rural and remote areas.
About You:
You will also have demonstrated previous experience in a similar role including demonstrated ability to provide information, support and referral information to older people, their families and service providers, extensive knowledge and understanding of phone based work and community education, have a well developed understanding of elder abuse and be passionate about making a difference in the lives of vulnerable people. You will have a positive attitude, as well as resilience and the ability to work with people in crisis.
In addition to the above you will ideally hold a Tertiary qualification or equivalent in a field related to community services, a current blue card (or be willing to obtain) and an open Australian driver’s license. You also require a good working knowledge of risk management principles and practices including the ability to identify areas of concern or potential risk, particularly in relation to the safety of staff and clients, with child safety being paramount.
