Position Summary

Recovery Worker

UnitingCare Queensland (UCQ) Child and Family Services is currently seeking to appoint part time (approx 64 hours per fortnight) Recovery Workers to work with children and young people in the care of the Department of Child Safety within a newly established Brisbane Recovery Service.

The Role:

The Recovery Worker will be working with children and young people in the care of the Department of Child Safety who are living in a residential service that focuses on mental health and substance misuse concerns.

The Recovery Worker aims to develop children and young person’s life skills and personal growth in becoming independent whilst healing, growing and building a positive vision of their future.

These outcomes will be achieved through developing positive relationships with children and young people in keeping with the Out of Home Care Children and Residential Experiences (CARE) practice framework, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), and Transforming Care (TC), as well as the application of knowledge of the recovery model of mental health and substance misuse concerns for young people who have experienced trauma.

Understanding of evidence based mental health and substance misuse in young people, who are living in non-family based care, will also be advantageous in this role.

About You:

You will be a skilled professional who has strong interpersonal and reflective communication capabilities. In addition you will have previous experience working within the health or community services sector where you have worked with children and young people at risk who have been impacted by trauma and who suffer from mental health and/or substance abuse issues. Additionally it would be advantageous if you have previous experience or exposure to the Child Protection system and experience of working within a 24 hour setting. Supplementing above you will be degree qualified within Human Services related discipline ( eg. Social Work, Psychology, Social Service, Counselling or related)
