Position Summary

UnitingCare is seeking a motivated person who is passionate about facilitating opportunities for people with a disability transition into open employment to join our team as a Job Coach.

About the Opportunity

Uniting Care Queensland in partnership with the Wesley Hospital have launched an innovative, internationally recognised pilot programme to support young people with intellectual disabilities to access employment.

Project Search began in the US in 1996 at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and is now operating in sites across the United States and Canada, England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, and the Netherlands. http://www.projectsearch.us/

The Project SEARCH Transition-to-Work Program is a unique, business-led, one-year employment preparation program that takes place entirely at the workplace.

Project SEARCH helps young people with a disability to secure an internship that provides on the job training across three particular roles within large service organisations such as hospitals and aged care environments.

This initiative will initially operate from Wesley Hospital in central Brisbane.

The position is part time, 30.4 hours per fortnight, with a view to increased hours dependent on the needs of the program.

The position is fixed term, with an end date of 28/02/2020, with a view to permanency subject to the program securing ongoing funding beyond this date.

What do you need to be successful in this role?

  • Hold a deep commitment to the social value of people with an intellectual disability
  • Have experience in the learning styles of people with an intellectual disability
  • Have excellent communication, negotiation, time management and interpersonal skills
  • Have demonstrated ability to use individual initiative and to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Previous experience working with young people within Disability Services and / or Disability Employment Services is preferred.
  • Previous experience working or studying within a hospital or clinical setting is highly desirable.
  • Positive Notice from Disability Services (Yellow Card).
  • Suitability Card for Child Related Employment (Blue Card)
  • Current QLD Driver's Licence

Remuneration

Base Salary + Super + Salary Packaging

The successful applicant will benefit from a competitive remuneration package, dependent on experience, paid in accordance with the UnitingCare Enterprise Agreement.
