Position Summary

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking expressions of interest from a humble, hard working, self motivated and reliable person to join our Goodna Therapeutic Residential team as a Full Time Senior Care Practitioner on a fixed term basis until 30 June 2021.

For this role, we require you to be passionate about improving the lives of children in the child protection system, be highly motivated, resilient and have a good understanding of the impact of trauma on children and their development.  Ideally, you will have an understanding of the CARE framework including Therapeutic Crisis Interventions. You will be required to provide support to the Service Leader in all aspects of the day to day operations and general practice of the service; form and maintain collaborative partnerships with stakeholders; provide reports and attend meetings as required. The position offers a Full time role with 76 hours per fortnight, whilst being a part of a 24/7 Roster with expectations to work weekends.

In addition to the above your role will also include but not be limited to:

  • Maintaining a Clean and Safe home environment
  • Managing Day to Day tasks within the context of a residential care home
  • Completing verbal and written reports as and when required
  • Leading best practice within the context of a multi-disciplinary team approach
  • Supporting and debriefing with youth workers and care practitioners following critical incidents

 

About You

To be successful in this role you will ideally have a strong understanding of the child protection system and more specifically previous exposure to a residential or out of home care environment. In addition you will have a strong therapeutic background ideally with a well-developed understanding of C.A.R.E principles.  

Supplementing the above you will require the following qualifications and certificates:

  • A minimum Cert IV or above  in human services, community services, Youth Services or related field
  • Current Blue Card (or willingness to apply for one)
  • A current Qld Driver Licence (Must be Open and valid licence - to be confirmed prior to offer of employment)
  • A senior First Aid Certificate (must be valid and hold prior to employment)
  • Be subject to relevant criminal and child protection system checks

As this roles support young people in residential setting flexible 24 hour availability is required as this role will involve shift work and sleepovers.

Selection Criteria Essential: Tertiary Qualifications in Human Services, Social Science and/or Knowledge of child development theories, the relevant child protection legislation, the alternative care system and the issues of trauma and attachment and how such issues impact on children and young people.
Essential: Demonstrated ability to engage with children or young people in a constructive manner, including the ability to engage with young people who may have challenging behaviour.
Essential: Demonstrated ability to work within a team of professionals to achieve planned outcomes.
Essential: Demonstrated ability to direct and coordinate staff - monitor practice, and provide support and guidance around performance.
Essential: Demonstrated ability to promote a learning environment and take an active role in fostering change and innovation, to improve service delivery.
Essential: Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Essential: Ability to work within the beliefs, mission, values and policies of UntingCare Community and adhere to the provisions of the Workplace Health and Safety and other relevant Legislation as the apply to the region's services.
