Position Summary

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a passionate, outcomes focussed and highly capable Service Leader to join our Newpin Program based in Cairns. The ideal applicant will be a clear communicator that enjoys developing the vision and skills of a small team. They will also be experienced in building relationships with clients and within the sector.

Newpin is an evidence-based intensive therapeutic program aimed at breaking the cycle of intergenerational child neglect and abuse. Newpin utilises attachment theory and trauma informed practice in a strengths based environment with parents and children to support successful reunification. Families attend a Newpin centre two days per week for 18 months on average – nine months before and after children are reunified with their families. This program is unique in its delivery and looks to harness the power of outcomes-focussed investment to deliver real change for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.

In this role you will work directly with and lead our Newpin team day to day while also maintaining and continuing our commitment to culturally responsive, localised services, through a strong working relationship with our community partners at Wuchopperen. In addition you will ensure the appropriate delivery for the framework of the Newpin program for the Cairns Region. As a leader you will enjoy coaching and mentoring staff, reflective practice, leading by example and be a perpetual learner with a thirst for knowledge. You will be responsible for ensuring the quality of the program and will become the Newpin subject matter expert in Cairns.

You will have extensive experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams with exceptional interpersonal communication skills developed within a client delivery focussed environment. Supplementing this you will have proven capability in driving process change to improve the customer/client experience with substantial background working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people where you have developed a strong understanding of both Culture and Country. Although not essential it would be highly desirable if the successful applicant identified as a part of the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community and had strong ties to local community groups including elders in the Cairns Region.

In addition to the above you will be required to hold a valid Children Check (blue card), a current driver's license and a Tertiary Qualification within social work, psychology and/or welfare or other related discipline with supplementary experience within the child and family services sector.

So don't hesitate! If you want to make a positive impact to the outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and are driven to achieve reunification then take the next step in your career with UnitingCare Queensland and apply now by submitting your cover letter and resume!

UnitingCare Queensland is committed to being a child safe, child friendly organisation and for all children who come into contact with our services we will provide welcoming, safe and nurturing services, prevent child abuse and neglect within our services and appropriately and immediately address child abuse and neglect if it does occur.
