Position Summary

UnitingCare's Child and Family Team have an exciting opportunity for a Family Worker to become a part of our Newpin Program Located in in the Logan region.

Newpin is an evidence-based intensive therapeutic program designed to break the cycle of intergenerational child neglect and abuse. Newpin utilises attachment theory and trauma informed practice in a strengths based environment with parents and children to support successful reunification. Families attend a Newpin centre two days per week for 18 months on average – nine months before and after children are reunified with their families. This program is unique in its delivery and looks to harness the power of outcomes-focussed investment to achieve real change for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.

As the Newpin Family Worker, your focus on working intensively and therapeutically within attachment, developmental and trauma informed frameworks will provide vital support to families referred for reunification with their child or children. Provide centre based therapeutic support and play an integral role in intervention support through the coordination of psyco-educational group facilitation.

As the successful person, you will bring with you a wealth of knowledge gained through previous experience working with families in crisis providing therapeutic support. You will have a genuine passion for supporting the reunification of families with demonstrated understanding of child protection issues. You will draw from your previous experience working with or as a part of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community leveraging from your already well established positive connections with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community groups (including elders) in Logan region. Due to the unique deliver of this program it would be highly desirable that the successful candidate identify as a member of the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community although this is not essential. Supplementing the above you will have a tertiary level education preferably at a Bachelor level within a Social work, social sciences or Psychology Discipline.
