Position Summary

Lifeline Crisis Support & Suicide prevention is currently seeking a motivated individual to join our dedicated crisis support team as a casual Crisis Supporter taking calls to the 13 11 14 service. You will need to have experience as an accredited crisis supporter. You will need to be proficient in providing support to callers with diverse issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be proficient in the application of the Lifeline Practice Model for Lifeline Crisis Support 13 11 14 and exercise call containment and caller management skills including risk assessment.
  • Undertake telephone crisis support shifts on a rostered basis or on-call as required to this maintaining the service operation with 95-100% shifts filled.
  • Comply with organisational and service delivery requirements including, but not limited to supervision and professional development in line with accreditation standards and policy guidelines.
  • Practice self-care strategies as well as recognise when additional supervision/debriefing is necessary. The use of a self reflection journal for the use of Reflective Practise.
  • Attendance and participation in team meetings and other forums, such as evaluations and trial activities required to achieve the paid service outcomes including 2.4 calls per logged hour

What do you need to be successful in this role?

  • Demonstrated experience in Crisis Support (accredited) with a clear understanding of the range of issues affecting callers in crisis.
  • Crisis intervention skills including call containment, risk assessment, safety planning and time management skills.
  • A high level of computer literacy and experience in using databases and Microsoft Office software packages.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, to give and receive constructive feedback and to respond reflectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to deal with callers experiencing distress in a variety of situations.
  • A willingness to be flexible in filling shifts when required, and may be called to provide shifts at flexible times.
  • Continue the role as a volunteer in areas required in administration/community events or filling a volunteer shift.
