Position Summary

We are currently seeking motivated individuals to join our dedicated StandBy - Support After Suicide service across Brisbane and surrounds. These are casual positions requiring some travel across South-East QLD and some out-of-hours work. There is a particular focus on availability for work at short notice.

The Role:

Working in the StandBy Support team, you will respond effectively to trauma and grief experienced by people impacted by suicide deaths, by providing face-to-face crisis counselling, debrief and referral support. 

What do you need to be successful in this role?

You will have experience in providing crisis counselling and be passionate about making a difference in the lives of people impacted by suicide. Supplementing this, you will present with the following: 

  • Possession of relevant tertiary qualifications and demonstrated knowledge and skill in working with people impacted by suicide.
  • Demonstrated well-developed interpersonal, communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated ability in the areas of crisis intervention and trauma response including knowledge of self-care management practices.
  • Current Drivers Licence
  • Working with Children Check (Blue Card)
  • A criminal history check may be conducted on the recommended person for this position

Remuneration:

The starting casual rate for these positions is $39.70 per hour.

Selection Criteria Desirable: Demonstrated knowledge and skill in working with people bereaved through suicide
Essential: Ability to collaborate with the appropriate agencies and authorities in the development of the service and coordinate with all aspects of service delivery
Essential: Proven ability to maintain complete, current and accurate data input requirements, in particular recording client data and case notes in accordance with established policies and procedures
Essential: Demonstrated knowledge and skill in community development practice, including knowledge of local community infrastructure and networks
Essential: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly the ability to liaise and communicate with all levels of staff
Essential: Ability to quickly establish sound and trusting working relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
Essential: Demonstrated, well developed, interpersonal, communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills and the ability to work effectively both as part of a team and with a broad range of stakeholders
Desirable: Experience in providing assistance in the development, implementation and coordination of community based crisis response plans to support families, friends and associates who have been bereaved through suicide
