Position Summary

Mackay Family Intervention Service (FIS) has an exciting opportunity for a passionate, outcomes focussed and highly capable Senior Family Counsellor. This position will be part time (60.8hrs f/n) on a fixed term contract beginning 27th of August 2018 and ending 1st of July 2019. The ideal applicant will be a passionate and dedicated leader that enjoys developing the vision and skills of a small team. They will also be experienced in building relationships with vulnerable children and their families as well as stakeholders within the community.

FIS is a non-government home based therapeutic intervention service.  FIS seeks to protect children by strengthening families’ ability to meet the needs of their children.  The service is offered to families referred by the Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women where children are at risk of out of home care or to achieve reunification.

The team engages with families to develop goals to address the Child Protection Worries and provide support to achieve these goals. The aims of FIS include (but are not limited to) addressing:

  • A safe place to live (home, clothing, hygiene etc);
  • Regularity in daily life (routine’s);
  • Physical and psychological safety;
  • Parenting education;
  • Establishing social/community support networks;
  • Practical and emotional support;
  • Advocacy.

In addition to the above you will be required to hold a valid Children Check (blue card), a current driver's license and a Tertiary Qualification within social work, psychology and/or welfare or other related discipline with supplementary experience within the child and family services sector.
