We are currently seeking a humble, hard working, emotionally intelligent, creative and flexible team player as a casual youth worker within our Ipswich residential care services.
This role will require you to work flexible hours being predominantly shift work and sleepovers. The key responsibilities include supervising and managing complex to extreme young people in crisis situations, contributing to the maintenance of a clean and safe environment, managing day to day tasks within the context of a residential care home and completing verbal and written reports as and when required.
Ideally you will have a good understanding of the child protection system, residential care and C.A.R.E principles being developmentally focused, competence centred, family involved, relationship based, trauma informed and ecologically oriented.

What qualifications and certificates will you need?
- A minimum Cert IV in human services or relevant field
- Current Blue Card (or willingness to apply for one)
- A current Qld Driver Licence (Must be Open and valid licence - to be confirmed prior to offer of employment)
- A senior First Aid Certificate (must be valid and hold prior to employment)
- Be subject to relevant criminal and child protection system checks
Remuneration
base salary + super+ salary packaging + employee benefits

Selection Criteria |
Essential: Tertiary Qualification in Human Services, Social Science or other relevant field at Diploma level or above will be highly regarded. Essential: Demonstrated knowledge of child development theories, relevant child protection legislation and the alternative care system. Essential: Demonstrated knowledge of developmental, trauma and attachment theories as applied to children and young people Essential: Demonstrated experience in developing positive and appropriate relationships with children/young people who have experienced trauma and to place the best interests of the child at the centre of all interactions and activities. Essential: Demonstrated experience in working with young people and other staff to develop appropriate and useful routines, structures, expectations and activities for the individual young people in accordance with the principles of the CARE framework. Ecologically oriented. Essential: Demonstrated experience in dealing with families of children in care and key stakeholders including officers of the Department of Child Safety. Essential: Demonstrated understanding of the significance of child protection matters in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and ability to communicate effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Essential: Demonstrated capacity to be an active team participant as well as the capacity to work autonomously, including exercising critical thinking and sound judgement in determining responses and actions. Essential: Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills. Essential: Ability to work within the beliefs, mission, values and policies of Uniting Care Community and adhere to the provisions off the Workplace Health and Safety and other relevant Legislation as they apply to the region’s services. |
