Coding Manager - Health Records & Information Services

Ongoing Position, Full time

The Women’s is Australia’s leading independent specialist hospital for women dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of women of all ages and cultures, and new born babies. The Women’s is recognised as a leader in its field, with expertise in maternity services and the care of newborn babies, gynaecology, assisted reproduction, women’s health and cancer services. 

The Health Records and Information department provides services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Services include record retrieval, clinical coding, Freedom of Information requests, individual enquiries, medical transcription (outpatient services) and forms design.

The Coding Manager is responsible for the co-ordination of coding, education and auditing activities performed by the HIM / Clinical Coding team to ensure all mandatory VAED, and PRS/2 reporting requirements are met within the agreed timeframes.  The Coding Manager is also responsible for the provision of training and supervision of Health Information Managers & Clinical coders. 

Your duties will include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Management and co-ordination of coding team to achieve coding and casemix targets
  • Ensure coding is completed in a timely manner according to hospital and DHHS guidelines
  • Coding of obstetrics, gynaecology and paediatric in patient records using the 3M encoder and ICD – 10 – AM e-books.
  • Co-ordination of coding, education and auditing activities
  • Managing the team of Health Information Managers

To be successful within this role you will need to have:

  • Masters/Bachelor of Health Information Management or equivalent. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience of ICD-10-AM coding. 
  • Comprehensive understanding of the principles/application of the Victorian Casemix funding system

Selection Criteria Essential: Bachelor of Health Information Management or equivalent
Essential: Minimum 7 years experience in coding and casemix related activities
Essential: Comprehensive knowledge and experience in ICD-10-AM coding
Essential: Comprehensive understanding of the principles/ application of the Victorian Casemix funding system
Desirable: Experience in planning and implementation of an electronic medical record
Essential: Do you have an in-depth and current knowledge of the DHS Admission Criteria and Coding standards?
