Position Summary

St John of God Bendigo Hospital has an opportunity for non-accredited ICU Registrars or Career Medical Officers to join the Intensive Care team on a fixed term basis for twelve (12) or (24) twenty-four months.

This position is suited to Medical Practitioners who have a keen interest or wish to gain exposure in intensive care, and who are competent in providing quality medical care.

SJG Bendigo is a contemporary private hospital in central Victoria providing health care services for people in Bendigo and surrounding areas. The 144-bed facility and highly qualified medical practitioners cater to a wide variety of specialty medical and surgical admissions, plus allied health and community-based services including rehabilitation, physiotherapy and home nursing.

With the redevelopment of the critical care unit capacity has increased to 12 bed combined Intensive Care Unit and coronary care unit with over 500 admissions per year. The unit is run by ICU director and with 3 VMO intensivist (all of whom are Fellows of the College of Intensive Care Medicine), supported by 5 ICU Registrars.

Case mix in ICU varies but typically, 80% are post op surgical patients (thoracic and colorectal).

ICU is a closed unit and performs all procedures as required caring for critically ill patients including Ventilation, CRRT, Tracheostomy, pacing, PA catheter, Bronchoscopy or IABP.

The Requirements 

  • Eligible or have current Registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA)
  • At least two years of postgraduate experience.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with patients, family members and other caregivers.
