The Position

St John of God Midland Public & Private Hospitals has a rare and exciting opportunity available for a suitably experienced Welfare Officer to join our Allied Health team.

You will be responsible for working in conjunction with the Social Workers and the multidisciplinary team to provide a comprehensive assessment and intervention which includes providing information, practical assistance and support to meet the needs of the patients and their carers.  

Applicants must have a qualification in Welfare Studies (or equivalent) and/or eligibility for membership of the Australian Institute of Welfare and Community Workers (AIWCW). 

This position is being offered on a permanent part time basis, working 30.4 hours per fortnight across 2 days per week.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Ability to work within and contribute to the Mission and Values of St John of God Health Care.
  • Qualification in Welfare Studies or other equivalent relevant qualification and /or eligibility for membership of the Australian Institute of Welfare and Community Workers (AIWCW). 
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of cultural issues and social determinants particularly relating to Aboriginal Health.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills (including ability to communicate using technology).
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise and show flexibility to meet changing service demands.
  • Demonstrated ability to self-direct learning, including identifying gaps in knowledge, as well as developing strategies for enhancement.
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting the Social Work / Welfare Service by communicating issues and areas for continuous improvement.
