Position Summary

St John of God Social Outreach, a division of St John of God Health Care, exists to address areas of unmet need in the community and substantial resources are dedicated to directly support people in need of our care. The services focus on early intervention and capacity building and operates across Western Australia, New South Wales, Victoria and in Timor-Leste. Available to all members of the community, not just St John of God Health Care hospital patients.

The Position

We currently have a rare opportunity for a Clinical Lead Psychiatrist to join us as the clinical leader of our Raphael Services in NSW  and be accountable for the specialist team that provides comprehensive mental health care to women and their families during the perinatal period up until the index child is four years of age. Our Raphael Services deliver expert care to parents and families with significant mental health issues related to pregnancy, postpartum or infancy periods. Treatment focuses on managing anxiety and depression, enhancing parental relationships and promoting competent, confident parent-child interaction. A range of assessments, individual and group therapy, and psychiatric support programs are available to help clients. Raphael Services are available to all members of the community and are delivered free of charge by a multidisciplinary team including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists and mental health nurses. The position forms part of our national network of services, with Raphael Services operating across Victoria, New South Wales and Western Australia. The service is well established and we have a strong vision for growth and expansion, particularly to support more rural and remote communities across Australia.

This position, predominantly based in Blacktown, centralises the clinical leadership of Raphael Services NSW. Raphael Services in NSW includes the Hub at Blacktown with satellite services at Hawkesbury and Springwood. The Clinical Lead Psychiatrist -Raphael Services NSW will need to travel between all service/capacity building locations and work closely with the Manager Raphael Services NSW to expand the services across a variety of locations, including to rural and remote locations via telehealth.

This position is being offered on a permanent part time basis, commencement flexible approx. mid-April 2018, working 7.6 hrs per day for 4 days per fortnight or 30.4 hours a fortnight.  

If you are a suitably qualified Psychiatrist with specialist training and experience in perinatal and infant mental health, an ability to mentor, guide and lead a multi-disciplinary team, and exceptional communication skills, we would love to hear from you.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Current general medical registration with Australian Health Practitioners Registration Agency (AHPRA).
  • Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP).
  • Specialist training and experience in perinatal and infant mental health including ability to provide secondary specialist liaison and consultation.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching, training and clinical supervision.
  • Experience in perinatal and infant mental health research.
