Position Summary

Health Information Manager – Statutory Extracts  

Maternity Leave Cover – Part Time Permanent (24 Hours/Week) – 12 month contract with possible extension  

Classification Grade 3, dependent upon experience  

Northern Health is the major provider of acute, sub-acute and ambulatory specialist services in Melbourne's north. Across our campuses we provide a range of primary, secondary and some tertiary health care services. Our emergency department treats over 85,000 patients each year and we deliver over 3,580 babies yearly. 

The Northern Health catchment includes three of the state's six growth areas: Hume, Whittlesea and Mitchell, and the northern growth corridor population is projected to grow by 59 per cent between 2016 and 2031.

An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic, experienced and highly motivated Health Information Manager to join the Client Data Management Statutory Extract Team at Northern Health which is response for the submission and reconciliation of VAED, VEMD, ESIS and VINAH related statutory extracts. This position would be covering VAED and VEMD reporting.

This position would suit a Health Information Manager with experience in statutory extract reporting, excellent communication, high attention to detail and organisational skills who can work in a team environment and relate well to all levels of staff. 

As the CDM statutory extract team cover a variety of extracts, the role will involve knowledge and support of multiple data submissions, as well as be involved in understanding and implementing key organisation priorities and internal monitoring of health service performance by ensuring data supports decision making and data integrity.

The position is based predominately at The Northern Hospital in Epping; however the successful applicant may be required to travel to all Northern Health campuses.



  • Bachelor of Health Information Management
  • Experience in a Health Information Management role within a medium to large complex health service
  • Experience with  Statutory Extract reporting
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of staff including external associates
  • Attention to detail whilst still able to  work to deadlines
  • Knowledge of casemix funding

Preferred Criteria:

  • Eligible for full membership with HIMAA
  • Experience using a scanned medical record
