Position Summary

An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic Grade 3 Respiratory Scientist to join the Respiratory team at Northern Health.  

In the first instance this role is a full time position at 80 hours per fortnight.

 

The role:

The Grade 3 Respiratory Scientist will provide supervision of junior scientific staff as well as performing respiratory and physiological testing within the Department of Respiratory Medicine at Northern Health.  The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring the attainment of high standards of laboratory measurement and patient care.  In addition, the role will include working as part of the Respiratory Protection Program (RPP) across Northern Health Worksites 

 

About you:

·       Support and assist the Head Scientist, Medical Director of the Respiratory Function Laboratory and the Director of the Department of Respiratory Medicine to provide high quality respiratory and physiology testing at Northern Health, consistent with Northern Health values.

·       Support and participate in research activities, including encouraging and supervising research activities conducted by junior scientific staff

·       Ensure financial responsibility and accountability within the laboratory and develop and implement strategies to ensure budgetary targets are met

·       Perform administrative duties (i.e. rostering, coordination, accreditation, policy revision) to support the Head Scientist

·       Active supervision of daily laboratory workflow (Including stock management and co-ordination of laboratory space)

·       Assist the Head Scientist with the achievement and maintenance of TSANZ accreditation for the laboratory.

Experience with cardiopulmonary exercise testing/complex testing, show attention to detail (and enjoy) documentation writing, involvement in research/collaborations and those proven to be a strong role model to other scientists is highly desirable.

Selection Criteria Essential: Relevant tertiary qualification(s) (e.g. Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Applied Science)
Desirable: Post-graduate qualifications including Certified Respiratory Function Scientist (CRFS)
Desirable: Experience in testing within a healthcare environment, including showing a commitment to further professional development and participation in research activities
Desirable: Experience in report verification and supervision of daily laboratory workflow
Desirable: Experience in active participation of laboratory accreditation, development diagnostic, and quality control and/or research procedures including evaluation of new instruments
Desirable: Experience with performance of cardiopulmonary exercise testing, arterial blood gas analysis and other high level respiratory physiological testing
Desirable: Experience with Respiratory function equipment
Desirable: Experience with Fit Testing procedures
Desirable: Ability to travel between Northern Health campuses to perform satellite testing
