Moreland City Council is located in the inner northern suburbs of Melbourne and is one of the most populous and culturally diverse municipalities. Located in Coburg, Moreland City Council is just 8km from the CBD and offers excellent public transport and cycling access for employees.

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to lead and manage the Arts and Culture Unit in a municipality renowned for its rich and diverse creative sector. Responsible for the operational and strategic objectives of the team, you will play a critical role in the achievement of service priorities and quality service performance.

Reporting to the Manager Cultural Development, you will have senior experience in a local government context, be aware of the key issues and challenges facing the arts sector and provide excellent communication, strategic thinking and solutions in fostering the arts in Moreland and leading the delivery of Moreland Council’s 2017-2022 Arts and Culture Strategy: Creative Capital.

Selection Criteria Essential: Demonstrated experience in working at a senior level in arts and cultural planning

Essential: Demonstrated skills in planning and developing both professional and community based arts activities and services

Essential: Understanding of the role and value of arts and culture in the community and of the principles of community development

Essential: Demonstrated ability to consistently lead, motivate and develop staff and to draw people together with a shared vision

Essential: Superior level of written, oral communication skills and negotiation skills together with the ability to prepare and present detailed business reports and grant submissions

Essential: Demonstrated ability to effectively engage with a diverse variety of stakeholders, including the ability to negotiate, mediate and resolve problem situations sensitively and effectively as required

Essential: Appropriate tertiary qualification in the arts or a related discipline.

Essential: A current Victorian Driver’s Licence is essential.

Desirable: Local Government experience is highly desirable
