About the Position

The purpose of this position is to provide engineering and asset management services to ensure safety and serviceability of the existing transport structures, and timely remediation of landslips in road reserve. This position is responsible for the provision of general engineering advice, condition assessments and the development of prioritised operational maintenance and capital works programs. Assets include bridges, major culverts and retaining walls.

Key Deliverables of the position:

  • Exercise responsible leadership in workflow management, staff development and training, mentoring, performance auditing and continuous improvement for bridges, structural and geotechnical asset management services.
  • Contribute expert knowledge, exercise initiative, undertake liaison, prepare reports, procedures, policies, correspondence and attend meetings on matters relating to engineering assets and planning bridges, structural and geotechnical asset management services.
  • Supervise or where appropriate undertake the investigation, recording and timely responses to concerns regarding bridges, structural and geotechnical services, including letters, councillor requests and phone calls.
  • Manage the strategic planning studies, ten and four year investment plans, emerging challenges and technology for operation and renewal of existing bridges, structural and geotechnical engineering structures (e.g. bridges, culverts, slopes, dams, weirs, retaining walls, revetment walls and other structures) are aligned, affordable and deliverable and then delivered.
  • Coordinate and liase with the City Maintenance Branch and the Bridge Maintenance Supervisor as required.

About You

  • You have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with particular emphasis in the areas of consultation, negotiation, influencing, conflict resolution and assertiveness in order to resolve organisational issues and meet changing organisational needs commensurate with the stature of this position.
  • You have excellent written communication skills with demonstrated ability to produce high quality reports, project plans, city submissions and letters.
  • You have experience with the development and/or interpretation of asset network models (eg condition assessment, criticality, economic evaluation, predictive performance) and the demonstrated ability to identify opportunities to improve investment outcomes through knowledge emerging from such models.
