About You

We currently have an opportunity for a motivated, experienced and successful professional who is degree qualified in HR, Employee Relations or, ideally Employment Law; with an in-depth understanding and knowledge of Employee and Industrial Relations in a large multi-faceted organisation. You have a positive mindset and passion for working in a dynamic environment where each day will provide new challenges.


You are a dedicated team member who derives great satisfaction out of providing industrial relations advice to various levels within our organisation and you will have the support of a capable, close-knit and accommodating team to do this. You are equally confident and at home in representing the City in a tribunal or sitting down with a senior Manager to work through a complex issue.

About the Position

The Senior Workplace Relations Business Partner is a senior specialist position within the team and works closely with Directors, Managers and Supervisors to provide:

  • A high quality client-focused Workplace Relations consultancy service to meet the strategic and service delivery objectives of the organisation;
  • Advises and supports Directors and Managers to resolve complex industrial and workplace relations matters;
  • Responsible for leading the development and implementation of programs focused on building the capability of people Managers and line leaders in the areas of case management, workplace relations and fitness for work.

Key Deliverables of the position:

  • Providing quality and timely case/matter management services which achieve the organisation's objectives, whilst ensuring our legal requirements are met;
  • Providing sound business focused Industrial Relations and people management advice;
  • Providing high level and consistent advice to the City’s Business Partners;
  • Interacting successfully across a broad spectrum of partners including Unions, their representatives and local delegates by addressing matters promptly and representing the City at meetings as required;
  • Undertaking analysis, monitor and share developments in employment law by keeping well-informed of legislative changes and emerging case law in order to mitigate risks to the City and improve workplace relations services;
  • Undertaking investigations to address industrial and workplace relations issues in a timely and effective manner;
  • Representation at industrial tribunals up to and including arbitration.

The Selection Process

As part of our selection process, you may be required to undertake a one way video interview via SparkHire, and a face to face interview or virtual interview via Mircrosoft Teams or Skype. You may also be required to undertake police checks, employment history checks, qualification checks and drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Australian Standards and Council's procedures.
