About the Position

The City of Gold Coast is seeking additional casual Duty Venue Duty Supervisors to assist in the management of day-to-day operations of our Major Sporting Venues across the Gold Coast. Major Sporting Venue's (MSV) hosts a variety of events, which can change significantly from day to day. It is for this reason that we are seeking a number of new, passionate casual staff members to support the full time Duty Supervisors to ensure our venues are adequately staffed year-round to provide the best possible service to our customers.

At the City we pride ourselves on exceptional customer service and appreciate that every individual is unique. The successful candidates will work across all of our venues including Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre, Carrara, Runaway Bay, Coomera and Upper Coomera.

Key Deliverables of the position:

The Venue Duty Supervisor position is a hands-on leadership role, responsible for the full supervision of personnel and functions within our venues. Below are some of the key responsibilities:

  • Responsibility for the coordination and smooth operations of all bookings and events, and management of all staff and equipment across all Major Sporting Venues.
  • Ability to work autonomously and be confident in using sound judgement and act quickly when required.
  • Demonstrating honesty and integrity and ensuring the City’s policies and standards are implemented in daily operations.
  • Processing additional client requests when required, both administratively and operationally. This includes alterations to bookings,  provision of additional equipment and handling food and beverage queries as required .
  • Overseeing cash handling, card payments and reconciliations, ensuring any discrepancies are investigated and appropriately dealt with.
  • In the absence of a supervisory floor staff member during any day, the Venue Duty Supervisor must supervise floor staff to ensure compliance with all their assigned duties including all opening and closing procedures.
  • Responsibility for ensuring all cash and card handling policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.
  • Ensuring that customer service, satisfaction and security are paramount at all times. Handling of customer complaints and queries in a professional and diplomatic manner and passing on complaints to the relevant department supervisors and including this information in the daily handover report.
  • Changing of base rosters for casual staff as per the needs of the venue for staffing levels for all bookings and events. The F&B Supervisor and F&B Officer create base rosters, which may then require alterations whilst on shift.
  • Being approachable for all staff and clients to liaise with on a daily basis.
  • Providing leadership, vision and direction to ensure the organisational goals are efficiently and effectively implemented.
  • Utilising communication skills to encourage, influence and lead a largely casual team through example and training.
  • Undertaking ad hoc duties as required, which may include assisting in BOH Kitchen Duties, making coffee, POS service, sport court set-ups, general operations to assist operations and maintenance team and much more.

Successful applicants will be on-boarded as Casual Venue Officers and have the ability to work in shifts both as a Venue Officer and a Venue Duty Supervisor depending on the operational requirement. Shifts undertaken as a Duty Supervisor will be paid accordingly at the appropriate higher rate.

All positions are Casual, and you will be required to be available on an ad-hoc basis across our venue's operating hours, which are from 6am - 11pm (or can be earlier/later during major events). Our events can range from sporting tournaments to expos and other activities, and shifts are largely dependent on event schedules.

The Selection Process

As part of our selection process, you may be required to undertake a one way video interview via SparkHire, and a face to face interview or virtual interview via Mircrosoft Teams or Skype. You may also be required to undertake police checks, employment history checks, qualification checks and drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Australian Standards and Council's procedures.
