About the Position

The Process Engineering team is part of the City's Water and Waste directorate. Water and Waste provides critical services to the City and 'manages our resources for a sustainable future'.

As a Process Engineer you will help to optimise the City's four sewage treatment plants (STP). You will carry out formalised assessments of STP processes to determine the capacity and investigate areas not meeting expected performance (to help ensure compliance with environmental approvals). The team also carries out technical investigations/trials to ensure cost efficient operation (incl. reducing expenditure on energy, chemicals and biosolids management) and provides support to operations staff, as required.

Key deliverables of the position:

The successful candidate will help the process engineering team to deliver a number of exciting outcomes over the next 12 months and will have the opportunity to work on projects, such as:

  • Energy efficiency assessments
  • Aeration optimisation (e.g. Merrimac STP)
  • Provision of support to project team delivering major STP upgrades
  • Provision of support to treatment operations and planning teams when investigating capacity and opportunities for improvement. 

About You

You will have tertiary qualifications (bachelor or post grad) in the field of engineering or science with chemical/environmental focus and experience with sewage and recycled water treatment plant processes. Ideally, applicants will also have:

  • Experience in optimisation of STPs and ability to prioritise problems, gather and analyse information and identify symptoms and causes
  • Capacity to identify issues in a regulatory environment, including knowledge of relevant legislation
  • High level of interpersonal skills including effective written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work autonomously, as well as part of a high-performing team
