About the position

We are seeking a Senior Specialist Project Manager to successfully project manage the delivery of a defined program of complex, specialised municipal infrastructure works. This includes road infrastructure, active transport and public transport infrastructure, intelligent transport systems and special Transport & Traffic projects, as well as mentoring junior project management officers.

Key deliverables of the position:

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing, developing and coordinating assigned municipal infrastructure projects and project teams.
  • Providing high level, specialist technical advice and recommendations to various sections of Council for projects within defined programs.
  • Ensuring provisions of all relevant legislation, regulations, agreements, standards, policies and processes are applied and adhered to in projects.
  • Providing sound project management advice, options and recommendations to guide project outcomes.
  • Investigating, analysing and problem solving transport network issues to arrive at fit for purpose solutions.
  • Providing mentoring to project officers and project managers within the project delivery team.

About you

  • You hold qualifications in the Civil Engineering discipline or have demonstrated equivalent experience and knowledge.
  • You have well developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with experience in drafting correspondence, procurement documentation and briefing senior management and elected representatives on project matters within a government environment.
  • You have well developed consultation, engagement and negotiation skills with the ability to influence project outcomes. 
  • You are a “can do” person who thrives on solving problems in a complex, fast moving environment.
  • You have the ability to bring in new ideas and challenge the status quo to bring about continuous improvement.
  • You have a comprehensive knowledge of statutory requirements, policies and procedures relevant to the delivery of transport infrastructure projects.
  • You have highly developed project management skills with a successful track record of project delivery.
  • You have experience in developing project scoping briefs and/or business cases.
  • You have experience in managing consultancies to develop planning reports, options reports and feasibility studies.
  • You have demonstrated experience with leading project teams to deliver projects from concept to asset handover.

About Transport and Traffic branch

The Transport and Traffic branch is responsible for the planning, operational management and delivery of enhancements to the City of Gold Coast’s transport network. With around 150 staff across four units, the branch oversees an annual budget in excess of $110million to deliver capital works, supporting operational projects and planning initiatives.

Transport and Traffic branch works under the strategic intent of the City of Gold Coast’s Corporate Plan and implements the Gold Coast City Transport Strategy 2031. This framework seeks to ensure the city has a safe and efficient transport system, which is responsive to the needs of the community and supports the achievement of economic, environmental and social objectives.

The branch works closely with many delivery partners, including the City’s development and land use planning teams and the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads to plan and manage the transport system as 'one network'.
