About the Position

Joining the dynamic and focused Strategic, Urban and Regional Planning unit, you will have the opportunity to work in the team responsible for a range of exciting deliverables which will ensure your days are varied and interesting, including: management of projects to deliver positive planning outcomes for the city; development of policy positions through to drafting updates to the statutory planning instrument; preparation and presentation of reports for committees; and statutory consultation and submission review/response management.

The Strategic, Urban and Regional Planning unit ensures the Gold Coast Planning Scheme, City Plan is developed and maintained through the formulation and delivering of policy outcomes in response to the evolving needs of the community and stakeholders. As an integral part of a team responsible for providing high quality specialist advice, you will be involved in the preparation and delivery of policy work that support the city's key statutory land use planning instrument, City Plan.

About You

To be successful in this role it is expected that you will be competent in the following areas:

  • Technical skills applicable to the role as identified in the screening questions
  • Demonstrate a high level of interpersonal, oral and written skills as well as effective time management
  • Demonstrate high attention to detail, ability to analyse issues, problem solve and the ability to contribute to policy development

Essential: Do you have a Bachelor degree in Urban and Regional Planning or equivalent knowledge?
Essential: Provide an example of your experience in the drafting or maintenance/update of a statutory planning instrument and how you achieved successful performance based planning outcomes.
Essential: Please provide an example of your experience in planning practices, particularly policy development and drafting.
Essential: Please provide an example of your demonstrated ability to successfully work independently on a complex project involving multiple stakeholders with conflicting requirements.
Essential: Provide an example of where you have been involved in a consultation process in which you have had to use strong interpersonal and advocacy skills.
