Employed as one of our Senior Traffic Engineering Officers, you will be required to investigate and solve traffic engineering issues and provide professional advice to support the Coordinator Traffic Engineering in the operation of an efficient, safe and sustainable transport system.

About You

You hold a Bachelor of Civil Engineering or have demonstrated equivalent experience and knowledge. As the ideal candidate you will be a highly skilled traffic engineer with a strong interest in keeping up to date with relevant standards, guidelines, laws, regulations and traffic engineering practices.

You will also have exceptional customer service and communication skills with a focus on achieving the best outcome for the community.  Having a can do attitude and being able to thrive in a busy operational team will set you apart from the rest. Ideally you are a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) or you are eligible to obtain this qualification in the near future.

Key responsibilities of the position:

  • Conduct autonomous field investigations.
  • Respond to customer and Councillor requests utilising Council’s customer request management software.
  • Identify solutions to complex traffic management, road safety, parking, pedestrian, cyclist and public transport issues.
  • Prepare reports and correspondence in relation to transport and traffic engineering matters, including Council Committee Agenda Items.
  • Review correspondence prepared by others within the team.
  • Develop and review signage and line marking plans.
  • Undertake road safety audits, crash investigations and speed limit reviews.
  • Provide input into the development of internal policies and procedures.
  • Assist the Coordinator Traffic Engineering with the management of the team, including recruitment, mentoring and guidance of less experienced team members.
  • Review infrastructure design drawings and provide feedback to ensure compliance with relevant standards and Council policies.
  • Liaise with both internal and external stakeholders including residents, Councillors and State Government agencies.

Transport and Infrastructure directorate is ultimately here to deliver quality infrastructure and services that align with the broader organisation vision and purpose. The directorate consists of asset custodians, service providers and business support roles that all contribute to the overall management, delivery and maintenance of quality infrastructure and services.

  • The Transport and Traffic branch is responsible for the planning, operational management and delivery of enhancements to the City of Gold Coast's transport network. With around 150 staff across four units, the branch oversees an annual budget over $110 million to deliver capital works, supporting operational projects and planning initiatives.
  • Transport and Traffic work under the strategic intent of the City of Gold Coast's Corporate Plan and implements the Gold Coast City Transport Strategy 2031. This framework seeks to ensure the city has a safe and efficient transport system which is responsive to the needs of the community and supports the achievement of economic, environmental and social objectives.
  • The branch works closely with many delivery partners, including the City's development and land use planning teams and the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads to plan and manage the transport system as 'one network'.

As part of our selection process, you may be required to undertake a one way video interview via SparkHire, and a face to face interview or virtual interview via skype; you may also be required to undertake police checks, employment history checks, qualification checks and drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Australian Standards and Council's procedures.
