How You’ll Make a Difference

Based at our Urban Precincts (Broadwater Parklands, Village Heart and HOTA), the Operations Officer – Precinct Operations and Maintenance (Gardener / Horticulturist), forms part of a work team providing excellent customer service whilst undertaking a wide range of activities involving general horticultural works, maintenance and improvements such as cleaning, playground equipment maintenance, events preparation and assistance in event delivery.

Broadwater Parklands is a world-class community and cultural parkland, loved by Gold Coast residents and tourists alike. Featuring the Rockpools waterplay area, a range of playground equipment, and a vast expanse of green at the heart of the parklands, there’s something fun to enjoy for all ages. The Great Lawn hosts some of the City's most popular events such as the Gold Coast Marathon, Mayors Christmas Carols and Monster Machinery Day.

Home of The Arts (HOTA) is surrounded by parklands and a lake and hosts a unique outdoor stage for live events and a refreshed cafe for relaxing and connecting. Plus, well-loved favourites, like cinemas, theatres and the art gallery.

Village Heart is seven hectares of lush open green space, with trees and umbrellas to relax under as well as beautiful picnic shelter areas to host family picnics. Village Heart also has great open spaces and a one-kilometre walking course as well as small, intimate spaces to relax and find some peace.

You will take responsibility for:

  • General horticultural duties
  • Cleaning and maintenance of public infrastructure.
  • Assisting in general maintenance (handyman) type duties across a range of trade skills (without crossing licensing and regulatory boundaries).
  • Organising and completing work activities in accordance with allocated times and schedules.
  • Responding to customer expectations and display an appropriate communication style when interacting with customers.
  • Experience in event setup and delivery will be favourably considered.

Please note that the successful candidate must have the ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays due to the nature of the use of the Urban Precincts.


  • Possess a Certificate III in Horticulture in Horticulture or a related discipline (or equivalent knowledge/experience)
  • Hold a current manual ‘MR’ (or higher) drivers’ licence
  • Possess a current Queensland General Safety Induction Construction Industry Card (White Card)
  • Possess a restricted commercial spray operator licence (ACDC Licence)
  • Have demonstrated previous practical experience in horticulture related landscape activities in high profile park precincts
  • Experience in playground maintenance desired but not essential
  • Experience in events set up preparation will be favourably considered
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekend and public holidays

The Selection Process
