About the Position

An opportunity exists for a Building Compliance Officer in the Development Compliance (Pool Fencing) team. The position will provide technical and administrative support to investigations of allegations, disputes and customer requests concerning compliance with the legislative requirements and regulations of the Planning Act, Building Act, Building Code of Australia, Queensland Mandatory Provisions, the City Plan and Pool Safety Standard.

This position requires the occupant to carry out a variety of building compliance tasks, including, but not limited to the following;

  • Review of legislation, development approvals and plans as required
  • Carry out and document site inspections and investigations
  • Prepare file notes/ inspection reports, correspondence, notices and letters following Development Compliance processes
  • Carry out enforcement action and manage the demands of the position, customers and high workload while maintaining a high level of customer service and professionalism
  • Other duties that the supervisor or management may direct.


  • Good knowledge of the Planning Act, Building Act, Building Code of Australia, the City Plan and Pool Safety standard
  • Experience with the City's various systems relevant to the position, including all MS Office suites and Pathway
  • Excellent level of documentation and written communication skills
  • Excellent level of workload management and prioritisation due to the number of investigations
  • Drivers Licence Class C Unrestricted and a WHS Licence General Construction (White Card)
  • Works productively in a team environment, good communication skills, including but not limited to negotiation and mediation skills.
