About the role
Would you love to use your horticulture skills while tending to our beautiful open spaces on the Gold Coast? This role is responsible for leading a work team undertaking maintenance and improvements of parks, landscaped and recreation areas within the City's open space regions on the Northern Gold Coast.
Note: The successful applicant will be appointed at the appropriate level based on qualifications, skills and experience between State Level five and State Level seven.
You will take responsibility for:
- Leading and building a work team undertaking maintenance and improvements of parks, landscaped and recreation areas.
- Planning and organising own work priorities and work of others, following designated work practices to maximise outcomes in terms of quality and productivity.
- Participating in identified training programs to increase skills and knowledge, and provide training and multi skilling of crew members for continual improvement of the section.
- Working predominately within a spray team, undertaking spraying of public open spaces including road verges and landscaped areas.
- Taking pride in your work, having passion for our City and constantly improving your landscaping skills with opportunities and learning new techniques and plant equipment.
Requirements for the role:
- Certificate III in Horticulture or related discipline (e.g. Green Keeping).
- Drivers licence class "C" unrestricted and Construction Induction Card (White/Blue Card).
- Demonstrated supervisory skills including demonstrated capacity for leadership, self-management, decision-making and team building.
- You have high level customer service and communication skills, a can do attitude and you thrive in a team environment.
- You possess a high level of motivation and adaptability, with the ability to prioritise and multi task in a dynamic environment.
About the City Maintenance Branch
- The City Maintenance Branch comprises of approximately 600 permanent staff and numerous contractors dedicated to delivering maintenance and cleaning services for the city's infrastructure assets.
- Assets include buildings, bridges, parks, landscape, trees, roads, footpaths, beaches, canals, stormwater drainage and lakes.
- These services are delivered in partnership with the respective Asset Custodians (including Parks & Recreational Services, Waste and Resource Management, City Libraries, Community Venues & Services, Fleet, City Assets, and Water and Waste) through service level or Partnering Agreements that outline the various roles, responsibilities and service levels between the parties.
About the Transport and Infrastructure Directorate
The Transport and Infrastructure directorate is ultimately here to deliver quality infrastructure and services that align with the broader organisation vision and purpose. The directorate consists of asset custodians, service providers and business support roles that all contribute to the overall management, delivery and maintenance of quality infrastructure and services.
The Selection Process
As part of our selection process, you may be required to undertake a one way video interview via SparkHire, and a face to face interview; you may also be required to undertake psychometric testing, police checks, employment history checks, qualification checks and drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Australian Standards and Council's procedures.
