About the Position(s)

On offer are 3 positions. 

  • 2 fixed term contract Assessment Officer positions on a 9-day fortnight to 30 June 2023
  • 1 fixed term contract Assessment Officer position on a 10-day fortnight to 30 June 2023

The Assessment Officer position in Water and Waste is a key part of the Development Services Team which manages the assessment of development applications.   The Assessment Officer is primarily responsible for assessing development applications and preparing internal referral memos in accordance with the Planning Act 2016, and assessing Connection Applications in accordance with the South-East Queensland Water (Distribution and Retail Restructuring) Act 2009.  Development Services is an internal referral team involved in the assessment of development applications and provides advice on water supply, sewerage and solid waste management.  The team also supervises the construction of developer contributed water supply and sewerage assets including trunk infrastructure.

The following list of responsibilities apply to this position.

  • Assess reconfiguring of a lot, material change use and operational works applications
  • Assess build over or near sewer referrals
  • Assess connection applications
  • Attend site inspections including prestart and on maintenances
  • Resolve construction issues and work with Construction Inspectors to ensure all site inspections are undertaken
  • Review plan sealing applications and make recommendations to Senior Assessment Engineer and Coordinator
  • Assess as constructed plans and other QA documentation

About You

If you are a qualified engineer and possess the following qualifications, you are encouraged to apply for this interesting and challenging position:

  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering (Civil or Mechanical) or equivalent knowledge
  • Competency in written and verbal communication
  • Valid Australian Driver Licence
  • White Card

Working in development assessment is challenging and requires compliance with strict legislative timeframes and assessment rules.  To be effective in this position, you will need to be a strong negotiator and be able to manage changing priorities.  You will also be able to influence others and make engineering decisions in a timely manner with input from Senior Assessment Engineers and Construction Inspectors.
