About the Position

Purpose of position is to reduce the City's risk exposure from hazards and from workers conducting businesses within the City cemeteries. In achieving this objective the position is to conduct inspections/audits of cemeteries to ensure compliance and safety and to ensure compliance with permits and approvals issued.

Key duties of the position:

  • Assists  with the management of venue bookings and on-site service arrangements and associated processes through the application of relevant systems
  • Provide excellent customer focused outcomes to internal and external customers through the provision and delivery of services aligned to the venue being worked at   
  • Coordinate and provide oversight to the provision of safe venues for internal and external stakeholders to undertake various business and social activities, ensuring areas are safe and hazards are identified and managed
  • The delivery of risk assessments that identify site hazards and the provision of instruction/guidance, whilst maintaining good working relationships with those performing work in and on City venues
  • Site inductions required for Funeral directors, Stone masons and other contractors who conduct work on a grave/site in accordance with new WH&S changes.
  • Set and maintain safety responsibilities and standards with Contract providers (this includes Stonemasons and Funeral Directors).
  • Liaise with all stakeholders regarding burials and oversee those conditions of contracts are being met by all parties with handover and handback of excavation sites
  • Identify potential improvements to operational, maintenance and administrative procedures and practices
  • Identify and report maintenance and operational  issues through the application of relevant systems
  • Undertake inspections of monuments and structures to visually assess any potential safety concerns or risks and manage these concerns and risks
  • Appropriate working methodologies employed for the provision of safety of visitors and workers prior to and after the site is handed over from Council
  • Inspect cemeteries s for illegal activities and or structures (including the recording of approved structures) and send appropriate notices for rectification
  • Undertake specific risk assessments
  • Assist with administrative functions and services including:
    • Managing Purchasing – creating shopping carts, purchase orders and receipting 
    • Bookings and special needs identification
    • Customer assistance and guidance
    • Service requests – identification, registration and resolution as required
    • Record management for venues use including data entry and verification
    • Managing Pathway receipting
