Position Summary

If so, then consider the Community Planning and Partnerships Officer role within the Diversity and Inclusion Unit of Brimbank City Council. 

Guided by Council’s Disability Action Plan and the Age Friendly City Plan, this role will support people with disability, seniors and carers living in Brimbank through the provision of information, advocacy and advice and in the delivery of programs and key events. 

In addition, this position will play a pivotal role in building relationships and partnerships within the organisation, community members, service providers, agencies and Government bodies.

Reporting to the Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator, the duties of the successful applicant will include but are not limited to:

  • Working with diverse stakeholders including people with disability, seniors and carers in local contexts to achieve increased participation in planning, service delivery and advocacy
  • Providing detailed analysis and regular updates on current and emerging social issues and initiatives (Local, State or Commonwealth) that could impact on Brimbank’s ageing community, people with disability and carers
  • Supporting Council Departments to maximise access to local services, programs and community infrastructure for people with disability, seniors and carers

The successful candidate will have a tertiary qualification that complements their strong understanding of community development and engagement principles and practices.  Highly developed interpersonal skills with capacity to effectively relate to a diverse range of stakeholders in a constantly changing environment will be considered highly.

Selection Criteria Essential: Ability to work in accordance with our values and behaviours

Essential: A tertiary qualification in the social sicences, community development or health including social work

Desirable: Understanding of and experience in community devleopment and entagement principles and practices

Essential: Demonstrated project management and program development skills and experience, including the ability to research, develop and implement any projects within a local government setting

Essential: Proven experience identifying and working with diverse stakeholders including people with disability, seniors and carers

Essential: High level computer literacy and information technology skills

Desirable: Ability to work independently and within a team to achieve the unit and organisational objectives

Desirable: Demonstrated ability to develop and work collaboratively and autonomously within a team environment

Essential: Current Victorian driver's license
