Position Summary

Brimbank City Council's Environment Department has an exciting new opportunity for a Biodiversity Referrals Officer to assess and provide advice on both private and public development proposals. Biodiversity values are a key consideration of the development and assessment of projects.

 

As the Biodiversity Referrals Officer your primary responsibilities will include;

  • Assessment and advice to Council departments and external stakeholders regarding impacts of land use development and development proposals within the context of the Brimbank Planning Scheme, State Planning Provisions and Federal legislation.
  • Provide advice to Council departments on how to avoid and minimise environmental impacts of infrastructure and capital works projects. 
  • Provide concise and well justified advice.
  • Establish and maintain internal relationships that support the development of biodiversity protection and enhancement initiatives.

This position forms part of a dynamic team to protect Brimbank's natural environment.

Selection Criteria Essential: Do you possess relevant tertiary qualifications in conservation and land management, town planning, environmental management or related field or less formal qualifications with substantial work experience in managing natural resource and/or environmental planning?

Essential: Do you have knowledge and understanding of land use planning systems, polices and processes in Victoria as they relate to the natural environment?

Essential: Do you have knowledge and understanding of Federal legislation and polices as they relate to the natural environment?

Essential: Do you have experience providing clear, concise and well justified environmental planning assessment and advice based on relevant legislation and planning polices and provisions. This includes the ability to translate legislative controls into practical and enforceable permit conditions?
