Position Summary

Brimbank’s Maternal and Child Health Service has a newly created position – Family Violence Practitioner.  This is a two year temporary role working with a universal  service  such as the Maternal and Child Health Service.

The role of specialist family violence practitioner in early intervention is to: maximise the opportunities in the first contact with women, to inform and support universal services through outreach work and secondary consultations.

This role will work with the Unviersal and Enhanced Maternal and Child Health Service.

Selection Criteria Essential: Experience working with children and families experiencing complex needs and risk issues in particular family violence

Essential: A sound knowledge of the resources and services available in the community with respect to family violence, crisis interventions, child protection, health, legal, income security, immigration policy, disability and housing.

Essential: Capacity to engage constructively and respectfully with individuals of diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, particularly for those identified as vulnerable or at risk.

Essential: Demonstrated understanding of government processes, services and policies to successfully advocate for the provision of an integrated and appropriate response for women escaping family violence

Essential: Demonstrated capacity to work in a multidisciplinary team setting and ability to build collaborative working relationships
