Position Summary

Brimbank City Council is seeking an experienced Advocacy Strategist to assist Council drive its strategic advocacy agenda on a range of critical issues affecting the Brimbank community.  The position will work across the organisation and with local partners to develop advocacy positions and run campaigns as identified in Council's Advocacy Plan.  The position requires an experienced professional with high level skills in public policy and stakeholder relations, excellent political acumen and a proven track record in leading advocacy campaigns.

This is a temporay role up until 30/06/2021 due to funding.

Selection Criteria Essential: Ability to work in accordance with our values and behaviours.

Essential: Relevant tertiary qualifications in political sciences, public policy or related discipline.

Essential: Several years relevant experience in implementing advocacy initiatives in a government or community based setting.

Essential: Proven research, policy and planning experience in a government or community-based setting.

Essential: High level communication skills, report writing, policy and public speaking skills with the ability to negotiate, motivate, influence and gain cooperation and assistance from others as required.

Essential: Proven ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders including the community, business, service providers, peak bodies and government organisations.

Essential: Proven project management skills including demonstrated ability to think and act laterally to develop innovative solutions to complex community issues and meet specified and often short work timeframes.

Desirable: • Current Drivers Licence.
