Position Summary

We are seeking an appropriately qualified Surgeon as a Staff Specialist in Orthopaedic Surgery. This is position and will complement the current Department comprised of eight VMO’s, four Registrars (1 AOA Accredited Trainee), two HMO’s, as a full time position. The successful applicant will; be required to provide General Adult and Paediatric Orthopaedic Services at Consultant level.   A mix of Elective and Emergency work is guaranteed.   A 12 month appointment is intended.

The Clinical Operations Division encompasses acute and mental health services with a focus on excellent care, every person, every time.  We provide a wide range of general medical, surgical and speciality services including oncology, cardiology, renal, emergency, women’s and children’s, critical care, specialist clinics and mental health services.

 

Within a state of the art hospital, the team provides high quality services using the latest technologies.  Our eleven operating theatres (including 2 endoscopy rooms), critical care, emergency and women’s wards all have access to critical services lifts that link to the helipad allowing rapid transfer of patients both in and out of the health service.

 

Each year our onsite specialist clinics provide almost 95,000 occasions of service, we also see more than 52,000 people in our emergency department and welcome around 1400 babies into the world.  The Clinical Operations Division assists with the admission of more than 49,000 patients into the hospital each year.

Selection Criteria
Essential:
01.Current Specialist Registrars with AHPRA

Essential:
02.Fellowship with Royal Australasian College of Surgeons or equivalent

Essential:
03.Demonstrated clinical ability commensurate with that expected of a specialist consultant orthopaedic surgeon

Essential:
04.Evidence of ongoing professional development to continually update personal medical knowledge and skills

Essential:
05.Demonstrated ability to structure and supervise a registrar in orthopaedic surgery

Essential:
06.Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective interactions required in the operation of a busy surgical service

Essential:
07.Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, as well as independently

Essential:
08.Good understanding of the Victorian Public Health system
