About the opportunity

The Metastatic Breast Care Nurse position is a three year McGrath Foundation funded position hosted at Bendigo Health that will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to support and coordinate care and service for patients with metastatic breast cancer.

Salary: $55.26 - $56.58 per hour
Hours: 48 hours per fortnight
Status: Part time fixed term

 

About the position

 

A Breast Care Nurse is defined by the National Breast and Ovarian Cancer Centre, now Cancer Australia, as a Registered Nurse who applies advanced knowledge of the health needs, preferences and circumstances of women with breast cancer to optimise the individual’s health and well-being at various phases across the continuum of care, including diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, follow up and palliative care. This advanced knowledge is based on an in depth understanding of theory and research relevant to the field of breast cancer nursing. Specifically, BCN practice incorporated advanced knowledge and skills in supportive care, including providing specialised and tailored information and education, psychological support and clinical care.

 

The Metastatic Breast Cancer Nurses Initiative, implemented by the McGrath Foundation, aims to support the creation of new McGrath Metastatic Breast Care Nurse (MBN) positions nationwide, thereby increasing access to specialist care and support. The specialist MBN clinical pathway will incorporate a combination of the following models of care:

  • Supportive care
  • Patient centered (and patient advocacy)
  • Care coordination
  • Multidisciplinary
  • Community based
  • Wellness

Selection Criteria
Essential:
01.Registered Nurse with current AHPRA and at least five years post registration experience in either oncology, palliative care or breast cancer nursing with knowledge of patients with advanced breast cancer including treatments and clinical trials available for patients with metastatic breast cancer

Essential:
02.Post graduate certificate in Breast Care and/or Oncology/Palliative Care Nursing (Diploma or Masters qualification desirable).

03.Demonstrated knowledge of the assessment and treatment of oncology emergencies

04.Evidence of participation in and commitment to quality improvement and best practice principles

Essential:
05.Demonstrated leadership and advocacy experience

Essential:
06.Experience in developing and delivering educational material / information for patients and colleagues

Essential:
07.Advanced interpersonal and counselling skills

Essential:
08.Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills in the multidisciplinary context
