The Quality and Patient Information Division provides leadership for the nursing workforce throughout Bendigo Health as it led by our Chief Nurse and Midwifery Officer. Quality and Patient Information Division provides leadership and support for quality improvement, patient safety and experience and health information services across the organisation.  The division, through both Health Information Services and Quality have key roles in medical record management, clinical documentation, Freedom of Information, patient safety, quality improvement, risk management, external reporting and compliance requirements. There is a strong strategic and operational focus of promoting quality improvement, supporting the organisation to review incidents, data and systems to improve patient outcomes and efficiency of the business.

Health Information Services (HIS) provides a range of services for Bendigo Health including:

  • Specialised management of health information and medical records;
  • Clinical coding and expertise in clinical classification and activity based funding models;
  • Clinical documentation education and support;
  • Statutory data reporting compliance mandated by Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) policies and business rules;
  • Data quality responsibilities across Bendigo Health to maintain integrity for internal and external reporting;
  • Medical records form design and records standards;
  • Freedom of Information (FOI) responsibilities and Release of Information (ROI) for general practitioners and external health care providers; and
  • Medical transcription services.

Selection Criteria
Essential:
01.A tertiary qualification in Health Information Management (or equivalent) or recognised Clinical Coding course and eligible for membership of the Health Information Management Association of Australia (HIMMA).

Desirable:
02.Unsupervised coding experience in a Health Service with similar casemix.

Desirable:
03.Demonstrable knowledge of Australian and Victorian Coding standards.

Desirable:
04.Knowledge of activity based funding models.

Desirable:
05.Demonstrate competency in a range of software applications (PICQ, 3M Codefinder, Microsoft Office).

Desirable:
06.Demonstrate high standard of organisation, communication, attention to detail and interpersonal skills.
